Hey all, I have been thinking about trading my Tacoma in for a Tundra V8 2WD. What do you guys think, is it worth it? I know I'm loosing a lot of backseat legroom and space but the wider cabin, the silky smooth yet powerful V8 and the 7,200lb. towing capacity makes me think about it. By the way, I might buy a 4WD but its more $ and there really arent many hills in FL. The truck is loader with everything except limited package/TRD package/leather/6 disc in dash. How are Tundras with gas mileage compared to the 3.4L, is the 4.7L as good as people say it is.

By the way...my car payment would only increase about $25/month

 

i wouldnt, unless it was a 4x4. i dont think the tundras look as good either. i need the 4x4 in the snow but you might be ok without it. dunno man its up to you really. whatever you do make sure its a toyota

 

Ive had both a 99 tacoma prerunner and a 2000 tundra v8 2wd. Hands down, the tundra was a sweeter ride. I miss that smooth V8. The only reason I got rid of it was that I no longer had the need for a big truck anymore and I wanted 4wd since I had taken up snowboarding so the 4runner fit the bill. If you dont have the need for 4wd, I would say that the 2wd tundra will not disappoint you. Just my $.02

 

As rowan said, it's your choice. Since you live in FL, you don't have to worry about CA emissions which robbed my Tundra of 5 hp (supposedly, but it's feels like more) and it really sucks in that regard. I bet those non-CA emission Tundra's really boggie. Otherwise, it's is nice in terms of power. MAKE SURE YOU INVEST IN THE LIMITED SLIP, I can't stress that enough, I am so glad I got one in mine otherwise as you make corner turns, you might have a lot of wheel spin. You can always buy it from TRD afterwards, but make sure you get one.

Since you are not worried about room, I would get one these days especially with Zero percent interest on them, otherwise if you need room, wait until the 2004 Quadcab comes out next year for added room.

Expect 14 MPG in the city (which to me is no problem) with the 4WD and I think 15 MPG with 2WD. Definitly go with 4WD, you never know when you will need it, plus helps if you ever have to sell your Tundra again with resale value.
