Question Torque settings...???

Well I just swapped my stock, rubber, ultra-cushy bushings out for some taller polyurethane versions. However I do have one slight problem.....what do I torque the nut down to on the sway bar connect? The only thing I did was swap the bushings. I tightened to what felt about right, but I'd like to know the exact ft.lb. if anyone knows off hand... (this is on the front end btw)

4Runner, 1990, IFS, 4x4, 3.0L

Thanks,
Steve

I think you tighten till it squishes the bushing a bit. Not much. Just a slight squish.

Here are the third gen specs, may give you an approximate idea...

Sway bar bushing bolts...14 Ft./Lbs.
End Link upper nuts........14 Ft./Lbs.
End Link lower nuts.........51 Ft./Lbs.

Im kind of weak on my terminology....got any diagrams of what each of those are? My front bushings only have 1 bolt that runs through a sleeve, 5 washers, and them and a single nut screws to the bottom of that bolt on the underside of the lower control arm. I take it that nut needs 14ft lbs or so....right now id guess it was closer to about 25-35ftlbs to get the squishyness that zedex described...

Yeah thats for the shocks. I just swapped the bushings in my anti sway bar. And was wondering on the torque on them...

You NAILED it! 19ftlbs of torque is the factory specification for the "stabilizer bar link nut." Eek what a name....

The difference with the polyurethane bushings is interesting, if im not feeling the placebo effect, I think I really like this mod....

10 bucks and i got them at an AutoZone. They are the polyurethane "cushions" (as toyota calls em.) You get 8 for 10 bux and 16 new "retaining washers."
