Well, I finally pulled the trigger last night and ordered them after reading ManyMods' post and talking with a Tokico rep on the way back to B'ham yesterday. I picked them up off of Ebay for $199 and I think the install will be about $200. I almost talked myself out of them at the last minute (paid one last visit to Monroe's website) but they're on the way.

Since my suspension is stock, I guess I'm still somewhat the guinnea pig since ManyMods had new springs, sway bars, etc. on his truck. I'll let everyone know about them just as soon as I get them put on. They shipped today!!

Or is AL power a subsidiary of Sou Co?

 

Yes, Alabama Power is one of the operating companies that are under the parent company, Southern Company. Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power, Savannah Electric, and Southern Power make up Southern Company in terms of electric generation/sales. There's also Sothern Linc which is our own cellular phone company which is just like Nextel, and they're actually talking about partnering with Nextel so we could use our direct connect feature nationwide.

 

Like he said, but I work for IT which provides support for all the company's owned by SC.

I'm also interested on how these shock feel. I'm looking to replace my stock shocks (130K on them) and would like the same smooth comfortable ride like when it was new.

 

They're going on Sunday...I'll let you know how it turns out.

 

I had a set of those Tokico TrekMasters installed on my 4R about a year ago and it rides so much better than stock. Not too stiff like the Bilstein shocks. You will love the ride with the TrekMasters. You will still feel the bumps when you go over the potholes, uneven pavement, freeway expansion joints, construction zone area but the vehicle will not bouncing around like the stock shocks. During hard braking, the front end "dive" is minimized and also during hard cornering, the vehicle will not sway as much as stock.

 

i agree with yota above, I just got back from another Mexico trip all around Baja (will be writing a major review tomorrow) and am even more pleased with these now then I was last month (Ive had them for about 15k miles in all conditions now).

Great shock, especially for stock trucks!

I've got some miles on my Tokico's now and I like them even more and am even more convinced I did the right thing.

I have to laugh at the comment I made about the ride never being as nice as my wife's Avalon --- IT IS NICER! I mean it; the ride is so much smoother and the bumps are not telegraphed as harshly as with my Avalon. Remember, I live on a 1/2 mile dirt road and travel rough roads on a regular basis. I am sure you are going to love these shocks.

How much of that improvement you describe is your new progressive rate springs and not so much just the shocks/struts?

I really think it is all the shocks. The ride was harsh and upon hard braking the nose would dive. These are the shocks I was looking for but was not sure I could find to complete the kind of ride package I wanted to put together. This is a soft, but not too soft ride, with just enough rebound control so as not to be sloppy.

 

Where did you buy those springs? How much were they and how much did they charge you to put them in?

Unfortunately, you will have to go to PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS for the springs. HR only makes them for this company. I wanted the 1" lowering springs which were supposed to be color coded in RED. However, what I got was the YELLOW springs that apparently had the PN for the lowering springs. Those springs did not lower the vehicle and it rides at approximately if not more than the OEM height. I hate PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS but for some things they are the only one-stop-shopping game in town that I know of.

 

Sorry for reviving an ancient thread, but LSUMatt1514 can you please post a review on these and let us know what you thought of the Tekmasters and what the rest of your setup is like? I am looking at buying the same shocks but have found only a couple of opinions - yours could be the deciding one! TIA

 

I know you're asking for Matt's opinion of the shocks you're considering, but I want to say I love them and think they're perfect. Granted, this isn't a cushie ride, but it is not sloppy or harsh and far superior to the OEM shocks. I've put about 10K on the vehicle since I installed them and they haven't changed their ride characteristics at all.
