tire size conversion help

Heylo, been searching the archives and couldn't find what i needed. I'm running 31x10.5R15 BFG A/Ts and i wanna get chains for emergency purposes. All the chain sizes pertain to the metric tire measurements. So basically i need to know the equivalent to 31x10.5's

However, that's a very common tire size and chains are vailable for it. Check here. I think I saw some for that size at Wal-Mart the other day.

Take for example:

285 is the width in millimeters, divide it by 25.4 and you'll have inches then multiply this number by .70 or .75 or whatever it is for your tire, then multiply it by 2 (You have 2 sidewalls), then add that to your rim diameter. Then you'll have the total height of your tire.

So a 285/75R16 is 11.22 inches wide, 32.8 inches tall on 16 inch rims.

Hope this helps!

Chris
