Tire Questions

Recently upgraded my 96 4Runner orig. factory lift to a 2" OME Lift all around very pleased with the handling and ride quality!....Was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if I can fit some BFG Size: 285/75QR16 A/T K/O's in place of my Pirelli Scorpion A/T's 265/75R16. New to Yotatech.com and need help.

welcome to the site... even with a 2" lift.. you will most likely not be able to fit that upsized tire.... at least not without fender trimming or firewall seam trimming

I should add that I took it to my trusty local tire guy. He checked for rubbing said he'd order me up some....said he thinks it may work but couldn't be sure until he mounted one on the front....should I tell him to abort...or give it a try?

Hmmm. Fair enough. Let me ask you this: if they don't quite rub, when I'm making sharp turn, will there be any repercussions when it comes to going off road (I'm not really a rock climber at this point so I'm not to concerned about the big stuff as of yet). Though I see a fair amount of snow/dirt/mud/grave/off road each year (if there's little clearance for the tire - I assume that's less clearance for snow to pass around the wheel well?). Sorry for the 1000 questions. I figure I may as well save my tire guy some grief if it's gonna be too close, and I haven't quite reached the mod stage of cutting yet either....so that's unfort out of the picture for now.

if it comes close to rubbing with just street driving or static weight on the vehicle, then it is defiantely going to rub offroad

I just put the 3" revtek kit up front with 285 MT/Rs...only street rubbing is on the frame at full lock

2" of lift will be a little tighter with 285s but I would think they would fit for on road purposes

It will work. You'll need to trim the front pinch weld or add a 1" body lift.

Yeah, I'm totally kicking my self for not dropping the extra cash and putting on a body lift when I had the chance. I was at my tire place today, 285's wouldn't fit, it rubbed on the frame, and was about a mm away from rubbing the sway bar. I was frustrated, but I'll survive with the BFG 265's. (No charge for the returning the 285's, and I'll have the 265's on mounted on Friday AM.) The difference in the tread profile & footprint is good enough of a jump for me [from the Pirelli's]. Maybe I'll give a body lift a whirl down the road. Thanks for your help guys...
