Is it ok to run a 265-70-16 on the right front and a 285-75-16 on the left front? Will this cause any damage with open diffs?

So you want to run a 31 on the right and a 33 on the left of the steering axle?

Why?

Not only is going to make your diff internals unhappy, your steering and braking are going to be all over the board.

This is NOT a good idea and I can't even begin to imagine or fathom why you would want to do such a thing. I will file this in my "what were they thinking?" section...

I tore a side wall this weekend and my spare is a 265. The new tire will not be in until wed.

As long as the diff is open (or better yet if you have manual hubs leave em unlocked) of course you can do this temporarily. Most folks don't carry a matching spare when they run big tires, I never did. Sometimes ended up having to change twice if you have flat on the back, but it's still better than trying to carry a 35 in a 4runner for example. WATRD just got carried away. Surely you wouldn't want to run odd sized tires deliberately....

Bummer on your tire, but this is one on those things you would probably puzzle out if you thought about it long enough...

If I HAD to run a tire that was that far off, I would swap a front with a rear and run the off-sized tire on the rear, with the diff unlocked, to limp me somewhere. At least that way the steering wouldn't be wacko.

However, I would just do that to limp a short distance to somewhere, then park the rig until I could find a suitable replacement for the tire, in a MUCH closer size.

Those little donut spares are meant to limp you off the freeway to a gas station, not drive around on like some people do. And they don't belong on a steering axle.

And as to not carrying a full sized spare, c'mon guys... it's part of the cost of running larger tires. Find a way to carry something that is at least the correct diameter... It's not as critical on a street only rig, but if you might be somewhere where you need four-wheel drive, it's vital.

The problem is I running wrangler MTR and that are low on supply around here. I have had 2 on order for 2 weeks now. 2 Spares Now I need 3

Kind of like the BFG M/T's a few months back... no one had them.

If it's just a spare and you are not planning to include it in your rotation, it doesn't need to be the same kind of tire or even the same width, just the same diameter. Several of the people I wheel with have 12.5" wide tires, but run a 10.5" wide spare of the same diameter to save space. It looks funny to see a narrow A/T on a truck with three wide M/T's, but they can get away with using it on either axle, although the rear is still preferred.
