Tire question?

I have an 02 4runner sport. I recently looked at the sticker on the truck and it calls for 15inch rims. I have 16inch. They came from the factory that way. My question is is my speedometer right?

Rim size wouldn't necessarily affect you speedo, tire diameter is what affects your speedo. So if you had 31x10.50R15s or 265/70R16s the speedo will be the same - they are the same size tire.
Interesting tidbit re the door sticker, either the Japanese or American built units- I forget which, only shows 225/75R15 regardless of what it came with. Means nada.

To check your speedo, use the timer on your digital watch, or a stopwatch, or a "sweep second hand" if you're digitally challenged and go for a drive on the highway. Find some mileposts and hold a steady speed and time the miles. Do more than one - mileposts are amazingly inaccurate. IF you maintained 60 mph you should have done 60 seconds per milepost. 65mph is 55 secs per mile. 55mph is 65 secs per mile. See the pattern?

IN that case - YES, the sticker being wrong is proof that the speedo reads fast. No doubt about it...

just a note, most speedos are inaccurate at the higher speeds even when brand new. Your truck came with 265/70R-15 stock. It should not be off by more than 3mph at 70mph.

just a note...I have a 2002 4Runner Badlands (Canadian version of SR5 sport) and my sticker has both 7x15 and 7x16 wheels on the sticker...came with 7x16's and supposedly (according to dealer) I cannot put a 15" rim on my model (won't fit) and the speedometer was set for the 16" rims.

may not apply to us version?

Yes it most likely show the right speed.
Mine have the 15" sticker, but came with 16" wheels and 265/70/R16. Via GPS I know that my speedometer shows around 2-3mph faster than I am going with my current tires.

"My wife thinks I drive to fast" they all do!
