Timing chain problems

I bought the dual row timing chin conversion kit from LCE and I'm having trouble installing it. I had my motor rebuilt and they put the cover and chain on for me, but didn't put the upper gear on. I put the gear on and then put the head on and torqued it down. The problem I had was getting the gear onto the camshaft. It was very hard and a friend said I had to remove the timing cover and remove the tensioner. I did that and removed the tensioner but it was still too hard to get it on so I moved the guides as far back as they could go and finally got it on. The chain tension is so tight that it doesn't seem right and when I put the tensioner back on its pushed back all the way. I put the pulley bolt on and tried to crank it to see what would happen and I stops at a certain point and will not go any further in both directions. Does anyone know if LCE gave me the wrong size chain or maybe I'm doing something wrong?

what year is your truck? I had the same problem it is caused by too short of a chain by 1 link. I have an 84 22r and i bought the wrong kit for it. it was for an 85 22re. when they changed from domed to flat piston heads it made the block shorter so they took out 1 link on the chain. I got a new chain w/ the extra 1 link and it went from being so tight w/ guides and tensioner off to just sliding right on there. Sounds like you have the same problem i did. Just a guess but it sounds identical.

Its an 85 motor that was originally carburated and converted to fuel injected. Maybe that's my problem, b/c when they asked if it was carb/efi i said it was efi. I'll call their order desk and ask. thanks for the advice.
