Angry timing chain help

Hi, ok i finaly got me a truck. it is an '824x4 22r 5sped. went to go pick it up and the kid i got it from said it might need a little work to run so i spent the day getting new cap rotar and plug wires, and a battery. so i started to crank it over and it wasnt guna fire at all. so i started to look around and the distrubiter wasnt tight and i tried to pull it outand it got stuck :wtf: . so i unbolted the valve cover only to find that the timing chain wasnt on the sprocet and the bolt holding all that to the cam was browken. i searched through the truck and found another one. i thought grate i can be on my way. but as i tried to put the chain on the bottom sprocketi was rotating it and found that i must have smashed it whin i turened it over. now my question is do i need to pull the motor to get the front cover asambly off so i can change the chain. thanks a lot sorry for the long post Neil Smith

To do this right, you'll need to at least pull the oil pan and head off this engine. With all this, you might as well just pull the whole damn thing where it's easier to work on. While you have the head off, you better check the valves to see if they're damaged.
Been there done that.

You can attempt to pull the cover off without removing the head, but more than likely you will ruin the head gasket and need to pull the head off.
