Exclamation timing chain

After bringing my Toyota down to the dealership for a cold start problem (which no one knows yet)....they told me that they can hear my timing chain slapping around and suggest that I get that fixed next. For $1000??!! I am moving to Washington next month and am need of making sure that everything runs well. They said the timing chain is responsible for the truck not wanting to go more than 75 on the interstate....are they right?? And $1000? I have a 1985 Toyota 4x4 with 22r and 113,000. Thanks.

A lot of that is going to be labor charges. If you are competent with auto repair, you can do it yourself. It just takes a lot of time, especially for the first time.

I have the DOA Timing Kit:

There are also kits from engnbldr:

It's kind of an involved project, and you may be better off finding an independent mechanic or friends to help you out.

What part of Washington are you moving to?

To Bellingham, north of Seattle. Is the timing chain responsible for no power on the interstate? Thanks for your help.
