Ticking Noise as RPM's go up

hello all...hopefully one of you can help me with a tick i am getting from my 3vze. when i have my windows down and i drive in a tight alley it sounds like it is comming from the passenger side. it isn't the exhaust i just replaced that without any leaks from the manifold back. when i pop the hood it sounds like the tick is comming from here(see the pic below

first off...what is that...second what does it do and do they make excessive noise...thanks for any info

EDIT: sorry for the small pic

The tick is coming from your injectors and vavles. It is normal on the 3vze. If you are getting excessive ticking inside the cab, check all of your firewall seals ( the one at the steering shaft is prone to wearing out).

The photo that you have circled is of the EGR valve.

Make sure that your spark plugs are not lose. I had a bad ticking sound on my 96 camaro. So I checked all the plugs and found one that was very lose.
snuged it up and that did the trick!

Let us know what you find out.

Yeah, if the sound increases with the throttle and with RPM change, it's probably just vavle tick. My V6 has 180,000 miles on it and it definitely does that.

My ticking went away after the number 4 burned a valve!

My 3.0 has ticked it's whole life. I had the valves adjusted several times with no effect on the ticking.
