? for those with Sport Hood
I just got the scooped hood installed on my 2002 SR5 4Runner. I notice the little screen over the scoop insert is kind of loose. Is this normal? I took it apart to make sure the body shop assembled it properly and they had. I figure I can put some double sided tape in the edge of it to seal the screen to the insert, but I wanted to ask others' experiences.
It seems the push pins that hold the insert in place do not go all the way through the screen. Instead they just put pressure on two small holes in the screen. Seemed like an odd design, but whatever.

That is the way that they are supposed to attach - however, I dont think it should be loose. Mine was solid when I took the scoop out to cut open the back and I actually had to drill out the tabs that held the screen in.

I figured it was supposed to be snug. I got it sorted last night in about 15 minutes. I removed the scoop insert and took it apart. I put some automotive double sided fender tape on the screen where it meets the backing plate and put it back together. That fixed it. The double sided tape is that gray kind that's weather proof and sticky as hell. Almost like foam duct tape.
Anyway, that did the trick and mine's rock solid now. I believe the problem was that Toyota had switched vendors for the push pins. The ones that I got with mine weren't long enough to go all the way through the insert, backing plate, AND screen. I'm sure in the original design that they were meant to as had they snapped through the screen everything would have been solid from the get go.
Thanks again.
