The theives are generally meth heads - looking for drug money. Not only are they going after cat's and 02 sensors, but they will break into houses or businesses being built and steal copper wiring. The precious metals are going for good money at scrap yards. What I want to know is why the hell aren't the police pressuring the scrap yards to check identity and keep ID copies of peeps who sell them the scrap? It won't stop the problem by any means but it would be more of a deterrent.

 

I put my old clogged up cat behind the garage when I replaced it and it was gone in like 20 minutes. I figured it would be there till my next run to the recycler...then I heard that they had some value. So how much are they worth?

 

Hmmmm.... I'm liking this idea. Payback with a punishment.

I've rigged a few alarms that way. It works really well. (watch out during the testing phase though!)

I will not go into detail what I would do, but it might entail using a Hi-Lift like a baseball bat since I do not have a bat.

Yep, it is happening here too.
The shop that did my Magnaflow a few weeks back said many are getting stolen.
Person goes out to their rig in the morning and is shocked when they fire it up and it is super loud.

 

After seeing this post I just remembered I still have my original one from when I replaced it with a high flow cat thinking it was clogged. Turns out it wasn't so getting back almost what I paid for the new one would be nice lol.

Happend to me last year, I just bought a new one and had it tach welded on. It was pretty wide spread in Modesto, Ca for a while, but then again, all theft is...One of the auto theft capitals of the US!

Then hire a good lawyer and hope the crooks rights were not gonna be violated.
Our department has had a bolo(be on look out) on this for 6-7 months now after the speaker of the houses suburban was victimized

Happened to my truck right before I bought it. Several lots on the same street were all victim in one night. Thieves crawled under any vehicle tall enough to and clipped them with a Sawzall. Something like 20 vehicles got nailed.

So, I happened to buy my truck with a brand new cat...

 

It's a huge issue in Canton. It it very bad because there are two of the "pay cash" metal yards within walking distance of the ghetto. Every day cats, copper pipes and wires, aluminum siding and even metals like titanium are reported stolen. On any given day there is a line of about 20 people waiting to cash in on some metal scrap, mostly stolen.

To curb the crimes, the city it putting laws on the books that require copies of IDs of sellers to be held at all the buy back locations, along with recrds of what was sold and when. Also, some metals have to stay in "limbo" at the scrap yard for a period of time so if they become evidence they will still be intact. There was even word of fingerprinting the sellers!

This of course does not apply to every seller. A bag of pop cans is an example of an item that can be sold no questions asked.

I'm supprised that my 4Runner has never been hit or messed with in any way considering I have to park it outside at my part time job, that just happens to be located in the middle of the wrong side of the tracks on the bad side of town.

The best way to keep your cat from getting swiped... Drive a lowered Honda!
