Just wanted to post a thankyou to all who post here. After my girlfriend had had her 99 4runner in to a shop for hesitation issues (and $1100 later!?), I told her to get the truck outa there!!

I had my suspicions as to what it could be, and after lurking on here, I stepped in and put my new relationship inhibitions aside as I was certain I could resolve this.

1/2 hour trip for a new air filter and a quick clean of the MAF and BINGO.

No check engine light, and no crazy lurching and hesitation. What jerks those guys were. Sheesh.

i'd go back and demand a refund or at least a partial since they didn't find the problem and kept replacing parts.

I never thought of that. It's her cash, but you're right. I'll try and convince her of that tonight.
This could get good. Cripes he even started talking about going internal.

 

if he does give you a hard time about refunding most of what he charged, report him to the BBB as well. Even threaten him with it. Also threaten him will calling local newstations/newspaper investigation teams. I would definitely go back there with her when you all give him hell. The idiots probably saw a woman with a sweet truck and saw dollar signs.

Also a piece of advise, anytime you have to deal with a repair shop always ask for the used parts back or at least to see them. This will somewhat keep them honest.
