Testing of Knock sensor.
I have the top of my 3.0L engine off and thought it would be a good idea to test the knock sensor.I did purchase a new wire for it so thats covered.
Anybody know how to test the sensor?

The best way would be with an oscilloscope. But, another way to test it, and I believe there are two knock sensors, one for each bank, would be to tap on the block with a mallet or hammer and watch for a reduction in timing. you will need to be above idle for that to happen though.
Let me look at my manual and see if there are some other ways to go about it. I'll post here if I find anything more useful.
Good luck.

If you never had a code for the knock sensor, I wouldn't worry about it. The Toyota Master mechanic who installed my free engine recommend that I have him change the knock sensor harness that's under the intake, because the heat damages them over the years, and after doing 100's of the HG recalls, he should know.
Not to steal thread, but I wished I wouldn't have got the free engine, because I would have rather swapped to the 3.4, oh well.
