Tacoma Gas Mileage

Did alot of searching with no luck.

I just bought a pre owned Tacoma, 3.4, 5 Speed, TRD all stock. I'm getting around 17 MPG. Is this normal for this truck?

My '01 4Runner with the same engine, but automatic gets 20-21 MPG.
I can't figure out why such a big difference.

I get right around that (well, I did, before I put on 285's... ) in my Tacoma. You might try cleaning the intake, and running some fuel system cleaner through it.

Agreed. 17-21 seems to be about normal for me. Just depends on how you drive it. Is your tailgate up or down? It doesn't make too much of a difference but if its down it seems to drag more.

Hi guys,

I just bought a 1997 Tacoma two weeks ago in Florida, then drove it the 2100 miles home in two days. I drove as much as possible with the cruise control on at just under 80 MPH..usually 78-ish....but always at or above 75 MPH.

I consistently got 300 miles on 15 gallons. Most of the time when I calculated it all out I was between 19.5 and 20.5 MPG. I figure at 65 MPH it would be a bit better...maybe 21-22-ish?

Truck is a bone stock extra cab 4x4 SR5, 3.4 5spd w/ 31" tires. 92K miles.

Gate is up. I have a cap.

I'll try some of the suggestions regarding the throttle body and the fuel system cleaner.
