Tacoma to 4Runner diff swap... Will it work???
My 01 4cyl 4wd Tacoma came with 4.30 factory gears. Anybody know if it would be possible to swap these with the factory 4.10 gears in my 02 4Runner?? Should it be a direct fit??
Also, would this swap even be worth it?? I'm referring to the front diff labor. I have done many rears but no IFS front diff work. How labor intensive is pulling out the front?? Any help would be great.

Yes, the front diffs in the runner and taco are the same, but the rears are NOT (unless they both have e-lockers).
Why do you want to swap these gears out? What will you do for the rear?
In all honesty, I don't think that the swap will be worthy of your time. There is not that much of a difference. What size tires are you planning to run in the runner?

Thanks Red, yeah just trying to see if it will be worth my time. If the rears won't match then that answers my question. I plan on running 285's and nothing larger.

Yep, I did know if that is what you were thinking or not. ( that you wanted to swap out both from the tacoma into the runner and then put both the runner's gears into the taco)
Like I said before, unless they are e-locker rear-ends, the rear thirds are not a direct swap.
The tacomas have what is commonly referred to as "8.4" which has a different mounting patteren than the regular 8" third that the runners and all pre 95 trucks have. But contrary to what most believe the "8.4" still has an 8 inch ring gear.
Good Luck on whatever you decide to do
