Tacoma 2.4L X2Rz-N74 99 and Knock Sensor

5 years ago, I had my faulty Tacoma 2000 2.4L engine replaced with a used one (#2 exhaust valve failed 3x in 1st 90K). Now I need to replace the knock sensor, but no one - not even my local Toyota dealer can tell me anything even about the engine, let alone the sensor! The label on the engine valve cover says... X2Rz-N74 99. The markings on the knock sensor are... "D" (underlined - like maybe Nippon Denso?), P0.2, and 7Df (can't read last character completely - might be t or 1). Even a web search doesn't reveal much, Denso web site says nothing about knock sensors. I'm stumped. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

I find it hard to believe that the Toyota dealership doesn't have the part number for the knock sensor.

Try a different dealer or go to www.toyotapartsales.com.

Several options, no part numbers shown

There are two knock sensors listed specifically for nippondenso for the year 2000 (assuming the motor is a 2000, and the knock sensor was consistent throughout the year, which for the original engine, it was not - the dealer needed the VIN to identify the original knock sensor). The list at ToyotaPartSales doesn't give any other identifiers. The dealer said it could be one of 6 different sensors that at least look like the one in question. Get the VIN off the motor and use that to get a replacement.

Thanks, I assume you mean the engine serial number, which I just read. I will take your suggestion and call another dealer to see if they can get me the correct part number.

No - I meant the VIN. It should be on a machined plate on the front of the engine. This will give you all of the information you need, given that engine-specific information is coded into it.

I'm sure the engine serial number/code would do the same, but using the VIN is a more common method, and will probably be easier to get data from.
