Well on my other truck a 98 Tacoma with the 2.4 (but assume it's the same valvetrain as the 2.7?). There is a faily noticable ticking/rattling sound after it's warmed up and at idle. At start-up or when its cold and at idle it's not loud. My 2.4 has about 100k miles and runs fine. So if this is normal I don't really care about the sound, but do you think I need a valve adjustment? Anyone else's Tacoma 2.4/2.7 sound like this?

 

Yes, my 97 Tacoma 2.4 taps and it also has a rapping sound on acceleration coming from the valve cover. The truck has 120,000 and runs good,Did you adjust your valves? If so was it tough? Any help is appreciated.

I don't have the truck anymore and did not adjust the valves. It is not too complicated of a process, but you start off by checking the valve clearances and seeing if they are within spec or not. I have not done this before, but watched someone do it. The factory clearances should be on a sticker under the hood. There is probably a complete writeup on adjusting your valves online.
