Sunroof opens (tilts up) by itself? Ideas?

Over the past few weeks I've found my '97 SR5 sunroof tilt is open when I didn't open it. I thought that I was crazy but twice yesterday, for no good reason, it tilted up on me in the middle of a drive.

Any ideas as to why this is happening (other than a ghost) and how to stop it (other than pulling the fuse)?

It might be something as simple as the switch. Take it apart and take a look. Maybe grab a replacement out of a junker or other...

More than likely there is a short or a loose wire somewhere. I would start at the switch and trace the wires from there. Is it a factory sunroof or aftermarket? If it is oem you should be able to find schematics online.

It's the factory roof. I'll start with the switch, hopefully my search will end there. Thanks.

Sounds like its a contact on the switch (bare or loose) causing this. Either that or you have fed the 4runner after midnight (old gremlin reference)...

Actually, it was something with the internals causing the switch to depress it's own mechanism. We just moved things around just a bit and it's all good. Thx.
