stupid question about 4x4

n reference to this thread

When I was in 4lo, I hung my hea dout the window while I Was spinning, and I saw that my front wheels were spinning, but if I didnt give enough throttle, my rears just sat there, at least, the drivers side didnt move. Is that normal? If I gave it some gas it would spin along with the front.

I don't have the link, but there is what's called an open diff. Basically, once one tire starts to slip all the power goes to that tire and the other doesn't spin.
