strange intake noise
hey! i have a 91 3.0v6 yota pickup. i also have the k&n intake system on it. my question is... that when i start the car cold... anytime the car has been sitting for a while and i start the car up... it makes this loud intake sound... you kno how like the air intake sounds really loud, u can hear a loud air sucking noise... it sounds like that... but Louder... and when i accelerate, it gets louder... and when i decel it gets softer. i kno the air intake sucks more in when i accel, so it may be that.... but i was wondering why it makes the louder sound after a cold start. it dies after a few mins. of driving. just curious.
thanks!
thanks!

Are you certain it's not the radiator fan you are hearing? It has a clutch on it and it will sound like a roar when you first fire up your truck when it is cold. It will disengage after a few minutes and therefore the roaring goes away.

Yeah I'd check the radiator fan too. That makes sense. Another thing that may be happening--when I start my 4Runner in the mornings it has kinda a high idle (close to 2,000RPM) for several minutes. Maybe your truck is doing the same thing and it really is sucking in more air. Just a thought.
Have fun.

i kno that my intake, esp being k&n, will have a loud suckin noise, esp when it revs up, coz its sucking in more air. and i kno that the engine idles high when its cold... then it goes down. but the noise happend at low rpm, and louder at higher rpm, when the engine is cold. when the engine is warm, whether the rpms are high or low, the louder than normal noise is not there. :T
oh well... doesnt seem to be hurting anything... SO FAR!!!
my brother is a ricer and has a cold air intake, and he always goes " hey go listen to all that air being sucked in!!!" :pat:
