Stock or Modified Intake Pros & Cons

I started a thread about my preparation to install a cold air intake system and a few things have come of the post so this has raised some more questions. I need the input of those who have done these mods including ISR as well as Cold air intakes such as K&N or other similar 'rechargable' filter systems.

The question coming up has to do with residue from the filter, oily or sticky residue accumulating on the MAF. Seeing how this is a rather expensive replacement part I would like the concensus of those who have done this sort of mod?
What are the draw backs?
What problems have you encountered after installing a cold air intake?
What type, if any, of performance issues did you encounter?
What did you do to resolve these issues?
What happened to your gas mileage?

I would seriously like some input on these and any other issues that any of the Yota Tech faithful have come across before I remove my stock system and install this new modification. This could very well be a very useful thread to any one else who is considering modifing their intake system. Thanks to everyone!

my first question is do you have any other performance mods? if not, this cold air intake wont help a bit.. ohhh a wopping 2hp.. LOL not worth it imo.... save the $$ and get headers THEN maybe look at your intake system. cold air intakes are worthless and messy when done alone.. imo

Not even 2hp. Louder engine noise. That's about it. The only intake I would consider getting is a snorkel.

Save some $$$ and stick with the stock airbox since it's technically already a cold air intake. Maybe add a Tru-Flo filter, ISR and deck plate mod, but that's about the most I'd recommend. I've tried a few different intakes, and like mentioned prior, all you appear to gain is a more aggressive noise. Stay away from any filter you have to "recharge" with oil. They always seem to attract dirt and such on the MAF and TB.

^ x 3.
As an aside, I once had a K+N 57i kit on an Opel a few years ago. Induction roar and continually cleaning crap and insects out of the K+N were the only gains! I junked it and reinstated the original airbox.

dale,

i have a TruFlow filter, the Airaid jr intake tube, and i did the deck plate a long time ago. i don't know if it's my pooch engine or what, but all those things didn't net me anything, except for a louder sound at WOT. i had an amsoil filter before the truflow too, nothing changed. since the lack of improvement, i've capped my deck plate and i'm going with OEM paper filters from now on to reduce the gunk going into the MAF and further up the intake tube. IMO, i do like the sound from the Airaid tube, but i think i wasted money on the other stuff. but then again, i drive like a grandpa anyway so going fast is not a big deal to me
