Stock exaust diameter size?

Hi all,

I wanted to confirm the stock exhaust pipe diameter for a 3rd Gen. I was under the impression that it was 2.25".

I called a muffler guy about installing a Magnaflow with 2.25" inlet/outlet today, and he said stock is 2", and that I would need an adapter. I thought for sure it was 2.25, but couldn't find anything to back that up.

My advice, call another shop. I argued with a guy about this before, too. He wanted to charge extra for custom fabbing an adapter, wtf!

Yes, the stock size is 2 1/4" You won't need any adapters. All they will have to do is enlarge/expand the ends of the muffler to fit iver the stock pipe, and cut a short piece to make up the difference in length from the stock vs. magnaflow muffler. This should be included in the installation price, because they usually just use scrap short pieces of pipe for the extension.

I third it.

The INSIDE DIAMETER is 2.25" with the OUTSIDE DIAMETER being 2.5".

Make sure you know how the mufflers are sized when ordering. Tell the muffler shop this stuff too.

Later!

Thanks guys, I will definitely call another shop as soon as I get back to my desk.

Incidentally, that shop also told me that I'd be looking at $60 max (he called it "worst-case", I'm assuming he meant including adapters) for install. Is that a typical price?

Dr. Z, Great Googley Moogley! The thought of ID vs OD completely slipped my mind. I guess I was assuming that the diameters listed on Magnaflow's site as well as what people talk about are the OD, but I hope now that its the ID!
