Have you done any further testing for head gasket failure?

A head gasket would pretty much give problems all the time.
Not 45 minutes into the rush hour traffic when things slow to a crawl
Then the problems of a head gasket would not be fixed by running the heater with blower on high.
I can only guess the 6 figure income is worth that frustration of driving in that traffic.

I think the next step is to order a B&M trans cooler.
I took readings of the trans oil pan on Friday (did not overheat again yet, as per internal gauge, but was not likely far off because I did hit some good traffic
Trans pan was 205 with temp gun.
Engine oil pan was only 190.
Do you think it makes sense?
PS- I am just getting into the habit of checking PMs, so if you have PMed me in the past, sorry if I did not get back to you!

If I ran a automatic the aftermarket trans cooler would be about the first thing I did when I got home.In other words it can`t hurt weather it fixes the problem we can only hope.
These are lots of other coolers out there I would look around.

After reading through every post, I didnt see anyone mention checking the AC condenser to make sure it is clean. The air has to first pass through the condenser before the radiator. You can also test the system by removing the t-stat entirely (make a gasket to seal it) and see if it still overheats. Its possible that the passages in the block are clogged which is impossible to clean. Coolant usually doesnt boil. If you are seeing bubbles, I am leaning towards a leaking head gasket that fails when the heat soak sets in.
Lastly, is your jiggler at 6 oclock. That can cause overheating. The 3.4 FSM says to put the jiggler down low which is contrary to most every other car on the road. Its a common mistake non-toyota mechanics make.

Hey guys, thought I'd follow up on this.
It is still overheating on occasion, but much less than the summer.
When it does I blast the heat and it cools of. I've pretty much decided to live with it.
I think I am going to rig up an extra electric fan for next summer.
