Stereo Questions?

Well I got a little spare cash now and I have decided to finally give my Runner's stereo some muscle. I think I am going to buy the MTX T410x3 Tri 10'' Sub box. I found one on Crutchfield for $175 Shipped. Is this a good deal? Any comments on this box?

Also I want to put my Infinity 6 1/2'' Speakers in my rear doors will they fit? Is it difficult to do (oh yeah 95 Runner)?

Lastly I am having the strangest problem with my stereo. The previous owner installed a stereo system, then took part of it out when he sold it to me. I have 4 smallish alpine speakers now, 2 in the front dash speaker spots and 2 in the rear cargo spots. When the radio is playing I get sound out of all 4 but when I switch to CD only the front 2 work, WTF is up with that?

Thanks

If you have the stock rear speaker enclosures, they have a separate amp attached to each enclosure.

It sounds like these amps might be connected to the power antenna connection on the deck.

This would explain why when yopu are listening to the radio and the antenna is up you have power to the rear amps.

When you switch on the CD the power to the antenna lead is switched off by the deck and the power to the amps.

Most of the new decks these days have a separate power amp switching lead which will need to be connected to the rear amps.

Or you can open the rear enclosures and by pass the amp and use the speaker lead directly from your deck.

Indeed they will if you wanna do a little fabbing or pay a shop to do it.
Check out my Audio page in my sig file below, then look for the link on the Audio page for the speaker pods.
I am running Infinity Reference 6.5" in the doors.

Great!

Great, thanks guys. I love this board, so helpful!

Anyone have any comments on the MTX T410x3 tri 10'' sub box? Testimonials? I will be running 800 watts to the box, is that enough?

Thanks again

I know of MTX, but never had any experience with them.

I'm sure someone here will provide some feed back on them.

I have had this box in my truck for about 3 weeks, and it is more than I could of ever hoped for!!! I got mine on sale @ Fry's here in houston for $100 plus tax. Even though the speakers (on paper) seem to be low end, they hit and hit hard. I would suggest this setup for anyone who is strapped for funds, or if you just don't feel like having a custom built box.

About the only , and I do mean lone, negative to this thing is the weight. I felt like I had a rhino sitting on the rear axle or something. But that was just the initiall shock...you'll forget all about it once the bass kicks in.

I have to get another amp seeing that the Autotek I have overheated and went into thermal protection mode the day I got the box installed. Sux...I know....

Bass is Good!
