Stereo dudes: Keeping the antenna down while the CD player is on
#1
On my old Alpine, the antenna would lower when the CD player was on. Then it would raise when the radio was turned on.
On my new Pioneer, this does not happen. The antenna stays in the up position if the head unit is on - no matter what.
When I removed the nest of wiring from the previous owner, there was a yellow wire with a large black box in the center. This was wired in to the yellow lead from the Alpine radio. When I installed the Pioneer, I purposely left this off. Does this have anything to do with my power antenna staying up?
How do I get the antenna to go down when the CD player is on? My main reason for doing this is when I am off-roading and listening to a CD.
Thank you.

i had the exact same problem with a previous head unit that happened to be Kenwood. However, on my new Alpine 9813, the power antenna goes down when the CD function is selected. I know I had a power antenna lead on the new head unit when I wired it to the factory harness. Did you have a blue power antenna lead on the pigtail included with the headunit?

Yes. Maybe this is Manufacturer dependent...
You would think that the head unit would just send a power ant down signal if anything other than the radio was selected.
Hmmm, maybe I should read the instructions for once in my life.

Make sure you did not mix up the power antenna lead with the amp turn on lead. Some head units use the same wire, others have a seperate amp turn on. It is also very likely that retracting the antenna could be manufacturer specific, if that is the case then a good option would be to install a switch in the power antenna line. Then when you are wheelin' you can retract your power antenna while you listen to CDs.

Thanks. So do you think a switch would work too Travis?

I too am frustrated by the fact that the antenna won't stay down when yer only playin a cd. but would be just that simple, as splicing in a 2 position switch to the antenna power lead? That would be preferable to going in behind the dash and finding the right wires to re-connect. Do i smell a write-up?!?!

I too have the 9813 and my antenna stays up when the CD is playing.
I was just checking it last night.
So you used the factory harness. My problem may be from the aftermarket harness that was used.

he he he....
you should ask pioneer why they refuse to supply a separate power ant. lead and amp lead. Only a few brands do this, one is pioneer, another is sony--i believe eclipse does that too. not all radio's are designed the same, but putting a switch that removes 12v from the ant. lead will make it go down.

my roommate is a die hard pioneer fan and all the headunits he's owned kept the antenna up
My Sony drops the antenna when I'm not playing the radio though...
If you want to install a switch that drops the antenna when the cd player is on, like duffdog said, you can just install a switch inline with the antenna lead. If, for some reason, you'd want the antenna up when the headunit is not on, just use any 12+ source and a switch.

This may seem way too simple, but you can buy generic internal antennaes to fit any deck, then all you have to do is either cut the power wire to the antenae, or just pop it out and disconnect it and put it back in...i have done both in the past. I'd help with more detail, but i gotta run. Good Luck.

If you have a pics of it, it would help immensely.
