Unhappy Steering wheel wiggling when braking..

Just recently I noticed that when I put on the brakes (slowing down from about 45-60MPH), the steering wheel starts wiggling. I am trying to find another word for "wiggling", but it does not seem to come to mind right now

Any ideas what is causing this?...I am due for new tires too, does this have anything to do with it?

How about Oscillating?

You might have the Brake Rotor Warpage problem. Here's a list of all the TSB's for your truck. The one you are looking for concerning this problem is this one:

15. BR007-00 DEC 00 Brakes (Front) - Vibration

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Dr. Z , I will probably swing by the dealership today and have them take a look at it...and point them to the TSB.

UPDATE: just dropped off my truck at the dealership to have them do the rotors based on the TSB. They took it in even though I've already exceeded warranty miles

Thanks again for the valuable info

How many miles did you have on your 99?

I took mine in today and they told me it's out of warranty and it would be $100 for each rotor plus labor for replacement.
They weren't aware of the TSB until I told them to look it up.
So, I told Classic Toyota in Austin, Texas that I'll do it myself if I need to buy new rotors.

I wish they could've told me over the phone when I told them my information so I didn't have to waste my time going there.

I had 38K on it. I was told the warranty was 37K...but they still took mine in and had the front rotors replaced (they even replaced the brake pads)

Good deal, glad it worked out for you. BTW, I thought "shimmy" might be a good synonym for 'wiggle'.
