ss 1.2 lift q's

Question ss 1.2 lift q's

too lift and lower or not? ok guys i got a black 97 limited and i just lifted it with the ss 1.2 last month. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/headbang.gif so i added 285 mtz's on 16X8 pro comps with 4" bs. i love the lift btw. only thing is that is does have a massive rake. the shop reinstalled the conical bumpstops (not suposed to gives another 3/4" lift. thats the first prob. 2nd i have a decent amount of rubbing in the front. the fronts are adjustable. im at the recomended 2" lift. you can go to 2.5". should i lift the front and take out the bump stops? or just pour gas on it and lite a match? http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...smilies/jk.gif

How much rake are we talking? System 1.2 has a healthy amount of rake as a design point.

i dont have pics. but its about a 2.5 inch difference. its pretty raked. i knew it was going to be raked with the ss 1.2 kit.but with addition of those bump stops its massive.
im worried that goin up another half inch may cause cv issues. i do have the diff drop though.

the stock rear springs on 3rd gens come with a cone bumpstop inside the coils. the coils sandwich between the base of the bumpstop and the top spring mount. giving it an extra 1/2 to 3/4. they werent supposed to reinstall these with the new fzj80 coils. anybody have thoughts on the front as well? go another 1/2"?

I would get the bumpstops out of there so it is set up as recommended, then see what you think. Do that before you fool with the front.

i agree with taking the bump stops out. now what about the rubbing? i dont want to mess with a body lift. and i could go up a notch. anybody running the ss 1.2 in the front at max lift?

I'd lose the cones as per the instructions from SS.

Do you have rear armour or sliders? The 1.2 is designed for a bit more than stock weight at the back (I left a cement sack or two in the back until I got my rear armour). Also, the 80 coils will settle a bit over time.

I would only go the extra 1/2in higher in the front after I see if I get unacceptable sag with my winch/front bumper combo when I install it.

I also love my 1.2 suspension!

Sorry. Forgot about the rub part. I'd still wait and see if getting the rear back where it belongs might not help just by changing the geometry of everything. Also see if you can figure out exactly when/where you're rubbing if you haven't already. I notice that Steve mentions in his FAQ that with 285s some people have to trim a little and some don't. If you still have trouble after all that, call Steve. He'll get you dialed in.

I don't have my SS 1.2 installed yet, or even ordered for that matter, but I have spoken with Steve ant SS and am planning on getting the 1.2 in September. I have an ARB with a winch on my 99 Runner and Steve said it would be fine to go up to the 2.5" in the front. I don't know if you have an OEM front bumper or not but if not then you're probably fine to go up the extra .5". On another note, I am kinda bummed that yours has so much rake. I have sliders and a hitch so it should calm the back down when I get it installed but I hope I'm not staring straight down at the road when it's all said and done!!

thanks for the replys guys. sorry bout the slow response but im lucky enough to still have to go to work lol. anyway i dont have any sliders or armor or bumpers just a factory hitch. and into response to sinister's qeustion im at the 2nd notch on the bilstiens (2"lift). and to dmoney and anyone else thinking bout this lift i would recomend it off the ride quality alone. frickin awesome. plus u can look down on chicks in little hondas (giggity). so should i go up .5"? i plan on getting sliders

We pretty much have the same setup. Mine is on the 2nd notch also and I don't notice that much of a rake at all. I would just take out the rear conical bumpstops first and see if that makes the rake less dramatic. Mine also rubbed on the front bumper so I just trimmed it a bit and pounded some spots flat with a hammer. If you still want that extra lift after that, then I would lift the front the extra 1/2 inch.

ok guys got the conical bumpstops out and i must say its not as fun goin down as it was goin up lol. but it looks better now much less rake. i gotta figure steve as ss advises to leaves these out for a reason hes a pretty smart dude. so i may leave the front alone for now. I only found this site a few months ago and what a mess u guys have got me in!! so many sweet runners on here! my bank account hates me right now so i figure next up is the freebie locker mod! thanks guys.( ill post pics when i figure out how everything works)
