Just wondering, I did some reading but I can't really find a answer to this problem.
My speedometer has gotten really jumpy and is now making a weird noise when I hit about 40 km/h. I tried the suggested graphite lube but it is still doing same thing. Should I replace the cable or does anyone think that it might be the speedometer itself? My thoughts are that if I change the cable it will be fine but I'm not very excited about doing it because the dash is a pain and if it is not the cable then I will have to do the whole dash think again to switch out the meter. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

 

My guess would be cable, I have hardly ever seen a speedo make noise and the jumping is classic cable.

 

Do you think the noise then is the meter?

Also, if you want to make it easier to reattach the cable to the speedo cluster, here's a trick. At the base of the cable on the floor of the cab, remove enough of the black tape that prevents the cable from sliding inside the housing. Pull up on the cable so that you have a couple of inches of slack. This will make reinstallation a piece of cake.

Sounds like the cable to me too (no pun intended). Mine started doing that a few years back. I just shoot some good cable lube down it every fall (it seems to do it when it's cold, for some reason), and I'm usually good for most of the winter. You can get a good cable lube at any motorcycle shop. They use it for clutch cables, speedo's, things like that, and it works just great on the speedo cable in these Toy's too.
