Speaker and Sub questions
#21
For that much, I'd look into getting an Image Dynamics IDQ 10" or 12" (they go for about $50 on ebay) and then pairing it with a 150-300watt amp (I recommend a Zapco AG350 which does 2x150 into 4ohms or 1x330 bridged into 4ohms -- about $200 on ebay). Much better quality and you can upgrade more easily.
If you're absolutely set on either of these I'd go with the Infinity Basslink. The Bazooka tubes just aren't loud and clear enough.

well lets see I paid $300 for my DEI 12 inch subs (2), concept amp, and installation (I think it took them like 3 hours). Not sure how much the breakdown was I don't remember what I did with my receipt. I'm happy with them. When i crank up the volume they can make my mirrors vibrate. I love it when they do that

Thanks to the Boston Acoustic fans for speaking up! I've heard these, and I like them a lot.
For someone who doesn't want to spend $$$ on subs, are Bazooka tubes or units like the Infinity Basslink a viable option? Basslink can be had for about $220 from eBay, or $239 from onlinecarstereo. Good bang for the buck, or just waste of a buck?
Thanks

Going with the conventional sub set-up requires space. You need a box for the sub, and you need a place to mount the amp. Thanks for the ideas, but even if a sub costs $50, an amp $200, plus a box ???, you're still pretty close to $300, if not more, self-installed.
I like the Basslink because you basically gotta run wires [under the carpet], and you have the option of pulling the unit out when you want to - the flexibility of extra cargo space when needed. I guess the same could be said about mounting an amp under a seat or behind a panel, but it's just a matter of a tiny package that includes everything for a little over $200
Hey JL XR650CSi for $220 or Boston Acoustic Pro 6.5 for $330?? Again, I've heard the BAs, and they retail for close to $800. I haven't heard the JLs, and they retail for $400. The BAs cost more, so they must be better... right?

BA's Rule
I've had alot of BA's in my vehicles and at home. Great speakers. Not just the separates, but the subs too. The only other speakers I like as much are Dynaudio. They are big buck though. MB Quart also makes nice separates...

I had JL XR653cs in front and I still have XR525cxs in the back, and I don't like them. Personally, I think the JLs sound really boring and dull, but that's my own opinion. Other people who've listened to my system when I had them in said that they liked the sound. They said it sounded very accurate, but I still didn't like them. I replaced them with a Dynaudio System 340
One thing that was nice about the JLs though, was that it was really forgiving on imaging. With the JLs in the kicks, my imaging was really good. I had my kicks built with convenience in mind. They're pretty low profile, and built recessed into the kickpanels themselves. Still, with the JLs, my sound stage was centered really well, and the height was decent, around the a/c controls area. The Dyns aren't as forgiving. My imaging has the rainbow effect goin on (turn your head and the "center" moves towards the kicks), and it's a bit lower in height, now somewhere a little below the headunit
Oh well, I don't mind much though. I've learned not to be as picky with my system so I can be happier with it
You really should just go listen to them. Everyone has different tastes and goals when it comes to stereos so you gotta figure out what you want and then choose your speakers accordingly

The 7894 is probably one of Alpine's bes head units right now (even though their 2003 line-up will feature MP3 and WMA playback in some of the lesser expensive radios) As far as components, try researching Oz Audio. Their Matrix series components might be a bit out of your price range, but their Vector series are in my opinion th best for the money. At around $250 a pair for the 6 1/2" components, i honestly think they will blow away th sound coming from the Infinitys, Polks, and ESPECIALLY the Rockfords (sorry, i despise that brand, especially for interior components) I may have suggested Oz too late, but if not, put your purchase on hold and check them out. I dont think there are too many dealers out there carrying them, so check out their website to see if there i one near you. www.ozaudio.com
Good luck, and remember, if it doesnt sound good to YOU, it's not worth the money.
