I want to buy some speakers for my 2002 4runner and need all your help out there on what you all think is good sound,price, and quality.thanks if any one helps out...

even the low end bostons are amazing.i say spend a little extra for the bostons and you wont be dissapointed..

Go with infinity http://www.infinitysystems.com I've got the reference series in my truck. They put out an amazing amount of sound for no amp. If you go with the Kappa and you put in an amp, you'll burst your ear drums. They are very resonable for their price. Go around to all the car audio places and listen to different speakers. Bring in the music that you listen to because there are certain speakers that "like" certain types of music. I listen to rock, alternative, classic rock, all of that good stuff. I would imagine that you would be impressed by infinity speakers.

I voted for the polk's. Personally I think Boston's, Polk's, and the MB Quarts are both excellent speakers. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I was the lone MB Quart Q series guy. Of those up there, they sound the absolute best to me. If i were to pick other I'd say it's a three way between Orion HCCA 6s, Focal Polykevlars, and ID Chameleons...

um, what kind of music do you listen to? Different speakers have very different sounds. There's no point in buying a speaker with good highs if all you listen to is rap. With that being said, I vote for Diamond of Focal gear. I know it's not on your list, but that's my vote. An honorable mention goes to the Polk/Momo gear. They are all very well rounded, and with a good amp/crossover, you can tweak the sound to just your liking.

focal or id chameleons those are my choices but it depends on how much your spending and if your gonna power them with an amp or not. Not worth spenging 300 dollars on a set of speakers and run them off a head unit. CHris

I am a personal fan of the Kenwood Excelons. I have an all Kenwood system, actually started with the speakers first, and decided to get a head unit, amp, and sub to match I have been very pleased with this set-up. The fronts are a component system, which was kind of expensive, but the three ways like I have in the back aren't too bad, and sound great.

I voted for the JBLs simply because that's what I'm going to be running. I just ordered a Kenwood Reciever (Kenwood KDC-MP522 MP3/CD Reciever) and a pair of JBL GTO635 6-1/2" 3-way Speakers for the front and a pair of JBL GTO925 6"x9" 2-way Speakers for the back for my Xterra. I had absolutely no idea what kind of speakers to get, so I called up Crutchfield and asked one of their advisors what they recommended, and these are the speakers he said. So I went down to the local Al & Ed's and listened to them and I also listened to a set of Kenwoods of the same size, and I liked how the JBLs Sound. So I went ahead and ordered them (They were $75 more at Al & Eds ) from Crutchfield and I should have them by Thursday. After I get them installed, I'll take some pics and tell you what I think.

I have to agree w/ knemo77 on the Bostons. A few years back I used to compete in car audio contest & have been trough a lot of different speakers & I found that the Bostons worked great for me. I have replaced all the factory speakers w/ Bostons & added a 10" Kicker Solo Baric Sub & they rock. I primarly listen to Jamiroquai & Dance/Techno music.

Me too! I used to compete with Boston Pro Series. Before I knew any better and thought more was the way to go, I had 20 speakers in my Celica GTS coupe. 3 sets of separates, 2 full range in the center air vent, 2 8" mid bass and 4 10's. I also still had a usable trunk and full size spare. Needless to say, I'm a big Boston fan. MB Quart are also great. Awesome TI tweeters - although some think they are too bright, I liked them. I've had friends smoke Polks. No experience on the JBL's

The year that I competed I had a local stereo shop & a manufacturer sponsoring me. I had 18 speakers in a SAAB 900 w/ over 1000 watts. I could push the spl over 125 which is small now but was pretty good back then.

I think that I'm the first to say this, but overall it's personal preferance. Notice that there isn't just one brand that everyone goes for. I said that I like infinities. I'm sure that if I try some other brands I'll like them too. Like I said before, go to Cartoys, if you have it, or some other car audio place where you can talk to some experts and listen to the speakers that you've talked about. That's what did it for me, maybe it'll do the same for you.

I was semi-shop sponsored in IASCA 251-500. Alpine electronics and Boston's. I had some nice RTA curves and was in the same SPL range. I always did good in SQ and Install. I later changed to Pro 0-100 and used Rockford Power, Alpine head, etc with (2) Celestion 15's and Rockford separates. I went from 20 speakers down to 10. Then I got married and that fun came to a screeching halt. :cry:

To bad it had to end for you. I must be pretty lucky my wife will still let me do what ever I want. I was in the Pro category & had AutoTek supply me w/ 3 amps, a 5 band & a 31 band EQ & 4 12" Subs. The shop set me up w/ a Kenwood head & Changer. An assortment of different speakers to fit certain needs & install help & what ever else I needed from show to show.

Here's a shot of my amps/electronics for the 251-500 setup before I switched to the Boston Pros. I went for the stealth install. The seats folded back up to conceal all of the electronics

Thats a nice looking install. The SAAB really didn't have any areas to hide stuff like that. Here is another pix showing the car at night.

Have you ever played any of the DYNAMIX stuff or Time Warp by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra? These were great CDs when I had my system. Then again The Phantom of the Opera sounded awesome to.
