Spare Tire

I currently have my 285/75/16 spare tire mounted on my roof rack. I'm going to get rid of the rack (it rattles and drives me nuts and I only use it for the tire) and move down to 265/75/16's. Will this fit in my stock spare tire location? Will the 285 fit underneath? When the 4 Runner is on the lift, I've measured and it just doesn't look like it will. What do you guys do?

The frame rials are 36" apart, so it will fit, but the 285 is wider than a 265, so it will hang down more than stock.

I just stuffed a 285 under mine a few days ago. I have the stock hitch receiver, which was really where the problem lies, width between rails was ok. The tire was a fairly worn BFG AT, and (I hope this doesn't bite me in the azz) I had to use a floor jack to get it up in place. I saw that a little rubber chunk came out where it was hung up on the hitch. But its up there...
