For those experienced in this procedure, do yo need the snap on tool for compressing the tensioner

if you are removing the tensioner to replace it. I'm doing both idler pulley's also, and just wasnt sure if this 50 dollar tool was still necessary if I'm actually removing the pulleys?
(I'm building my own crank pulley tool with a 2x4)

Secondly, with regards to the cam seals and crank seal. I have 230K on this engine, and not sure what condition those will be in once I get in there, so I'll have new seals on hand in case. Now, this is the part of the procedure that really scares me. I've done crank seals on hondas, and the thing where you drive a screw or some pointy, etc into the metal portion of the seal and pop it out, nver really seems to work quite so easily for me
Has anyone had experience with a seal removal tool that absolutely works 100% with no problems?
How does the dealer do it?

If you're replacing the tensioner, you don't need that overpriced tool. I have a seal puller that I used when I worked at honda: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...0070921x00003a

It's a little tricky the first time you use it, but it gets the job done.

 

Just use
a c clamp or vise it will do the job
