How the heck did that happen to it??? Your sig says a 99, i have no idea how that could of happend. But OUCH!

 

Not only did it happen, but it happened like a couple of years ago. My rear window dropped into the tailgate because the flange that support the window got damaged. The metal parts rusted, and the plastic got brittle, and it failed. I fixed that with a couple of nuts and bolts, but the window wouldn't go down completely. I now know why. The rust made the metal ?inflate?, and the window guide would get stuck there...

I recently bought a new motor assembly, too.

Water simply gets in there, and everything rusts.

 

Hmmm, that is scary.

But i also see that you live way up north so i guess you have salt (this is something i know nothing about down in Texas). That could be part of your problem...

 

IMO.............The biggest culprit in the 3rd gen tailgates is the 2 cent
black filters on the bottom of the tailgate.
They will be clogged in no time and any dirt, dust and moisture is trapped in your tailgate to reak havoc on your parts.

I pulled mine out and tossed them a while ago and now, any water runs right out the bottom of the tailgate along with debris and dirt.

The first flushing was a doozy with huge cakes of sediment breaking apart and coming out.

Also.........As a rule, I never 4 wheel or trail ride with any window at half mast.
A recipe for a jumped track or dropped window or broken parts.

And fully clsed i can see being the best choice but how is fully open safer than half open? Seems that they are both the same.

 

when not all the way open/closed they are in the middle of the track and have potential to come off the track and not go back up/down. If it is all the way down then it is all the way inside the track and cannot go anywhere.

 

IMO....... a half mast window has much of it's weight flopping in the breeze
while you vibrate your way down the road
A fully open window is grabbed at the bottom by the track and at the top by the firm rubber gasket on your door. Keeping it in place.

Experiment for yourself..........1/2 mast the rear window and go four wheeling
You'll hear many interesting sounds emitting from your tailgate as the flopping begins.

 

Ok, that makes sense. I usually wheel (well mild wheeling as i can't afford to break anything until i have another DD truck...) i have all but the driver windows closed.
