Smelly brakes?

Hey i have a 1990 toyota pickup xtracab V6 4x4 5spd. And i have noticed that my brakes (appears to be front disc brakes, not rear) smell really bad when i drive the truck. I mean its so bad when i come to a stop i can smell it in the cab, with the windows open that is. I am going to open it up tomorrow and take a look, but is there anything i should be looking for? Anybody with similar experiences? They dont squeel or make noise of any kind, just smell bad.

Sounds like you need brakes! When's the last time you got them changed?

Many times the squealers won't squeal...

I have only had the truck for about a month, and only been driving it a week (it sat until old car sold)... So i dont know when they were last changed, or what type they are. Im gonna pull them tomorrow and check them out, what do i look for? I pulled the wheel off today to check it out somewhat, and noticed a small groove in the rotor which i know can be a sign of worn out pads, but i dont know if its from these pads, or previous pads they had. If they need to be replaced, what do you guys reccomend?

Also, when i pulled the wheel off today, i undid the wire thing that holds the pins in, then pulled the pins out, but i couldnt get the pads out cuz they were against the rotor tight. How do i get them out?

lol. i sure i will get some disagrements, but if i am going to replace the brake shoes. i just use a screw driver to losen it enuff to get the old shoes out. actually i use the screw driver to pry it all the way out so the new shoes will fit back in also. just my method. i gonna figure some one mite say it could damage a rotor. but i have never had a problem. but i dont force it really hard either. usally frees up pretty easy
