i put a blown 383 chevy stroker in my 82 and if i had to do it all over again, i would call advance adapters and get them to put a kit together, save a lotta time, can you weld? if not, you need to learn and practice. i would probably go with the overdrive auto , not the three speed. driveshafts are another issue, i surely wouldnt do anything until the motor gives out ( my 3.0 v6 has 167k miles) do not use the headers that restrict the use of a manual tranny, do what you have to do to use the block hugger headers like the hot rods use.

 

i can't imagine what a 383, let alone a blown 383 would feel like in a toyota. the 1 ton flatbed i drive on occasion at work has a 383/465 4 speed and it's amazing how ballsy that thing is.

Yeah, those Chevy TPI motors from the mid to late '80's had LOTS of torque. The (L98) 350 TPI's had up to 345lb ft of TQ at a low 3200rpm. Even more than the 325lb ft of TQ the LS1's had. The weird thing is the TPI engine "feels" faster than the LS1, but it's not. The LS1 stomps the L98 mostly in the top end. Around town though, nothing beats a torquey 350 TPI for driving fun.

I'd go with the 2JZ-FTE(?) Supra twin-turbo I6 swap. You just can't beat the cost effectiveness of a turbo motor. Those Supra sixes can easily achieve 400hp with just a few hundred dollars in mods. With a few thousand invested, you'll be at the 500hp+ level.

If you're still stuck on the Chevy LS series engines though and have lots and lots of $$$$$, then wait until the new 500hp/500TQ LS7 comes out in the new Z06. That engine will definitely cure the low performance problems in your '92 Toyota 4Runner.

 

0-60 redlining the first 2 gears and trying to get the slushbox to shift quick gives me a 13.9 or so 0-60. Im also lugging around about 500lbs of audio gear too...lol

 

You'd be surprise just how quick and hard that 4l80e will shift... Slushboxes have come a looooong way.

i've got a 350 in my 84. i didn't do the work but everything looks like it is suppose to be in there. everything was done with the advance adapters kit. i took it mud running the other day for the first time. lock it in low lock and you can just about idle up anything. i'm getting some mastercraft M/T tires put on it today. next on the list is a rear locker. i'll try and get some pics up.

When I met her she had a Montero - don't laugh - get this: She bought it brand new in Alaska and drove it to New York, alone. We finally sold it 2 years ago with 240,000 on it! It still looked almost new, she takes care of things much better than I do... I still see it around town, going strong.

Forget about the Chevy 4.3 V6, the 3.4 Toyota is a MUCH better engine. Also the 3.4 with the TRD blower is sweet!

say if i was to use the 2JZ-GTE Supra twin-turbo how would that compare to a chevy small block? Power wise? And how do you you use stock transmission? and if so do you need an adaptor from the motor to the transmission?
