Sloppy automatic shifter
#21
I replaced my bushings today. Best fix to my 98 Tacoma yet. There are four to replace. Not two. Two are accessible from the top, but you have to remove the assembly to get to the two on the bottom.

I have same problem with my 94 4runner. Is the part number in the diagram above the same for my 4runner? The slop in mine is terrible!

Sorry, one more question. I can see how this effort will resolve my issues with my key getting stuck in the ignition, but do you think this fix will also help with my key not turning in the ignition or is that more likely a worn out ignition switch.

I recently replaced the automatic shifter bushings for my '98 ltd 4WD at 300k. It requires 4 bushings #90385-11003. My cost was $14 shipped from McGeorge Toyota. They are soft blue plastic as shown above, and two of mine had completely disintegrated. It took about an hour, but I removed the shifter from the truck before tearing it down. I put a bit of grease in the new ones. Shifting is like new, and well worth the effort.
