side mirrors
hey guys, this isn't a big question as more of a curiosity to me, but i was washing my car and i noticed that the driver's side side mirror doesn't say "THINGS MAY APPEAR CLOSER THAN THEY ARE" and the pasenger's does. does anyone else have this? I have never had my mirrors changed either, so all i can come up with is that its' for more visibility. thanks!

It's because the passenger side mirror is convex, but the driver's side is flat.
The convex surface gives a wider view, but makes objects appear further away, thus the message...
BTW, that message has been on the right-side mirrors for as long as I can remember. There was even a visual joke with that inscription in "Jurassic" park in the T. Rex chase scene. The Rex was bearing down on the Jeep and was shown reflected in the mirror with the "Caution - Objects may be closer than they appear"" statement on the mirror.

The drivers side is flat so that you can see how far things are behind you. I put one of those 1.5 inch stick on convex jobs on the driver side to get the best of both concepts. The passenger side is convex to eliminate as much blind spot as possible. On all 3 of the motorcycles I have had they were convex on both sides to minimize the blind spots on both sides.
