Should I take the Taco over the Runner?

Well, let's preface by saying that I race motocross, so I do use a pickup every weekend. I was looking for a Tacoma when I stumbled across the 4runner, with intentions of re-selling to make a couple grand. Well, tacomas are wicked expensive, and I liked the runner, so I kept it. I wanted a 5spd 2.7, and I really did "settle" with the auto 3.4.

So here's my situation. My neighbor is the first owner of an ext cab '02 2.7 5spd 4x4 with 104k on it. All sched maint done by toyota. Sitting on new 275 rugged terrains. He just put it up for sale for 12k, but said he would take 8k or 9k from me. I checked online and they are going for 13-17k all day.

So, I am really thinking about trying to get 7 or 8k out of my 4runner, and moving into the truck that I have been dreaming about since I was 16. I would finally get to ditch hauling a trailer for just a couple bikes, and get back a tailgate to party on!

Thats my story. Can anyone think of any reason why I should keep the runner over a pickup?

unless you need the people room of the 4runner get the tacoma. It's really nice to get what you've always wanted, and that's a really good deal.

Sounds like the taco suites your needs better so what's holding you back. Especially if you neighbour is selling it well below resale to you.

I'd buy that truck right away. That's a great deal considering i just paid $7500 for my 97 2.7 tacoma with 85000 miles.

I actually hate when everyone thinks they're riding with me, just because I have the seats. Right now the seats are unbolted, and in my garage, just because I needed a reason not to haul my drunk friends home from a party that I wasn't drinking at.

The only doubt I have about it, is giving up a truck that I am sure is sound. Also, I have had one bad experience with buying a vehicle from a friend, we are not friends any more because of it.

I failed to mention that it also has an alpine head unit, nice speakers, and a 10" sub behind the seat!

If you have a trailer to haul your junk with, you don't truly need the truck...if you don't want to haul people around, I'd get the truck, or just get a 2 door 4runner and people won't want to climb in the back

Seems like you really would rather have the truck though, If you've got the money, you should go with what you'd like best.

I like the pick ups better: no one wants to really ride with you, the bed is really handy for so many reasons, more cargo room for stuff, you damage the ebd or it rusts out you replace it, much easier to lift using leafs in the back.

if he can prove the maintenence, i would jump all over it. Dealership maintinence is generally worth every penny, and it shows in the end.

Is the taco extended cab? We have a street bike that will not fit into the taco because the bed is too short so end up pulling a trailer anyway.

But for a dirt bike and a reg cab taco then I think you would be okay.

So the whole truck is just shorter?? That doesn't make sense.

Well I guess you better measure then just to be safe. It would be a bummer to find out your bike didn't fit.

Get the Taco. I have a Yamaha WR250F and I do a lot of single track trail riding. Since I can't stuff the bike into the back of my 4Runner, and I don't want to pay for a trailer, I built a hitch carrier. So, now I push my bike onto the hitch-carrier, and strap it down. It has worked great so far, but I would much rather have a Taco for carrying a bike. Maybe when I total the 4Runner off the side of Cliff Hanger in Moab, I'll get a Taco.

I love the Tacoma.

But you probably already knew that.

As far as fitting the bikes, I have fit 2 Yamaha YZ 250's in the back of my truck. (03 DC) Had to have the tailgate down, but they fit. DOO IT!!!!

Manual hubs were not available since 2000.

Regular and Xtracabs have the same bed size (6 ft). Doublecabs have the 5ft bed.

Too bad you don't live any closer. I'd take that 4runner off your hands. The one im looking at now is red and i'd much rather have the black.

Get the tacoma though. You will be able to use it alot more for what you need then the 4runner.
