Should I ditch the factory stripe?

I blew a small piece of my factory stripe away with the pressure washer today and now I am toying with the idea of ditching the whole thing. I think it will look funny when I get my gloss black Bushwhackers too. Can someone who is good on the PC take the stripe off using paintbrush for me and email it to me or post it up so I can get an idea what it would look like without it?

My concern would be the possible color difference between the paint under the stripe and the rest of the body. I would be curious to see Corey's take on this.

BTW, I like it without the stripe. Looks nice and clean.

I thought of this too. Seems like I remember someone putting up a post a while back and they had no problems.

Ditch it

Take it off. Any color differences would be more noticable on dark paint. Mine is dark blue, and when we stripped them 4 years ago, we couldn't tell at all. BTW, I had a body shop do it, since I was in getting a crunch repaired. The removed it and buffed up the paint. Still looks great!

I say lose it! BTW, my JGC has a nasty gold metallic tape pinstripe that's coming off ASAP, not to mention the dealer's vinyl diecut sticker. Heat gun and some patience is all it takes. I took the graphics off of my Celica I used to have also. Less is more.

Go Stripeless

I think on white paint you should not have a problem with the stripes off.

It may look a little different, and it if does, spend some time with some polish and wax and try to bring out the lustre of it.

Not sure when mine came off, but owner # 1 seemed to like the paint on style of pin striping.
You can't really see my pin striping unless you are up close.

You hardly notice it from a distance.

Ditch it. To get mine off I borrowed a variable temp heat gun at work, set on "2", and a dull plastic scraper (or popsicle stick). Once you get it started peeling, work it slowly, and don't hold the heat in one place too long, 'cause the stripe will break and you'll have to start over. I used acetone to get the little bit of adhesive I had to get off.

Under the stripe the paint is perferctly shiny, so you'll see a difference until the whole thing gets buffed out.

Just finished putting my Bushwackers on last night, and mine's white too. (Looks cool, and hopefully they'll help keep it cleaner)

Hey, there are a lot of white 2nd gens on here.

As soon as Joey gets his on, we'll have to start a white/Bushwacked thread :xmas7:

Joey, looking forward to your flares, and a write-up of course
You are keeping our Tech section busy, not to mention me.

Future mods

Hey Corey - watch out, I think you two might be twins someday.

If he does an ARB/winch and Yak roof rack, you might mistake his for yours - he did mention moving back to the states somewhere near Greenwater...

Maybe you were separated at birth...

Knowing you, your rig will probably be shinier

Ditch it! I think the 4Runners, and most other cars for that matter look better without the factory stripes. Just take your time, be patient, and it will turn out great. Good Luck! Peace.

Ditch it!!

Looks much better without. I removed that ugly %#$@ sticker of my black 95 and it's a big improvement. Rig looks "tougher".

I used 3M adhesive remover on a hot day and a plastic scraper. It was pretty easy.

There is a little difference in the paint up close. Still, it's way better than the stripe.

Sam

Wow don't think I've ever seen a poll lean so far in one direction. I think I'll leave it alone till I get my Bushwhackers but after that she's a goner. I would like my Runner to look kinda like this one someday.

After removing the stripe, it' might look better with the "black over the tires" thing. It looks nice and clean on the other white rigs.
