sell the old 3.0

I am installing my girlfriends new crate engine, but I have another question. I am thinking about keeping the old 3.0 and selling it. All it needs is a valve job, that my buddy can do cheap. Then I could sell it. My girlfriend is going to keep her 4Runner untill it blows again, so we decided on a reman engine, she wants another 10 years out of it. I'd hate to send them back an engine that only needs a valve job, for a 500.00 core charge, that they turn around and sell for 3300 bucks. I could prob do a valve job and get more money. What do you guys think?

You sure it only needs a valve job? If so, why didn't she just have a valve job done?
How many miles on it? If you spend the money on a valve job, add that to the $500 and try to sell it, I think it might be hard to make a profit. I wouldn't pay $700ish for a used engine of questionable condition (no offense,) plus shipping.

Well it is just speculation at this point. It hasn't been torn apart yet, but my buddy is going to, so we can see what damage was done. Judging by the noise, what took place to cause the problem, and the performance of the engine still, it seems like it just needs a valve job. The engine had 208,000 on it and ran great up until...Since my girlfriend decided to keep the car for 10 more years if the repair cost more than 500.00, I recomended a reman engine to get 10 years out of her. Even if she sells it in 3, she'll get more for it this way too.

In any case it was just a thought I was throwing out there. I will most likely send it back to Jasper...I was just playing with the idea.

I'd be interested in knowing how that Jasper engine lasts. I keep wondering whether to get a rebuilt or get an old 3.0 and rebuild it myself with the power mods I want.

Yeah, I keep asking myself the same type of questions - should I get an engine now and start on it now, do the power mods etc, so it's ready when I need it, should I just get a reman when this goes, or should I just go ahead a do v8 (or whatever) swap. I guess I've gone so far past the point of getting much of my investment back that I might as well just do what I really want. ;-) My engine runs just fine, but at 214k it probably isn't going to last a whole lot longer.
