Hello! I'm new to wheelin...or rather i'd like to be new to wheeling. I have a 2wd 2000 2.4l 5spd tacoma with a bad tranny. My friend proposed to me that since i have to swap my tranny i should swap to a 4x4 tranny and SAS conversion. any suggestions if this setup will or will not work? or what it will require to work? He plans on mating a V6 4x4 Tranny to my 4 cyl? is that possible? I would love to have my yota become my toy...
I've read the threads on converting the 2wd 4runner to 4wd 4runner...would it be basically the same?

and yes i know i should just sell and get a 4x4 but i can't get for 2wd tacoma std cab with a bad tranny... and i'd much rather just dump a couple K$ in mine if its possible

 

Search, my friend. Lots of info on the solid axle swap board and 4x4wire. You have a world of researching to do to ask this question...respectfully. Good luck.

however is your tacoma a prerunner or a mini taco?

 

if its a 2000 taco you'll need a Dana 44 (or 60 ) front axle... after 94 for trucks and 95 on 4runners, it got alot more complecated to do a SAS... it can be done, it just takes alot more work... the TG SAS kit will not work on your truck either.... again check ttora for more help. there are a bunch of guys on there that have SASed their tacos, they will be able to help you alot more.
