Running Boards

recommendations, want to upgrade the running boards on 97 4Runner limited

I’d get rock sliders unless you have zero plans to go off-roading

Are your stock boards just beat up? Or are you looking for a different style.

personally, once my kids are big enough to not need the extra step I’ll ditch mine for a more rugged look.

looking more towards rugged look....not so easy as it has the fender flares. The plastic end caps on the running boards just dont hold up anymore plus most of the paint has peeled.

If you’re not looking to add off-road protection, I’d say check the salvage yards and get the OEM because it will fit and mount the best for security. If you’re going off road, you’re looking maybe $100-$200 more for a basic set of bolt-on rock sliders (less if you get a weld-it-yourself kit). And with that you get the usability of running boards and the protection of rock sliders.
