rs3000 Alarm on 1996 Limited

I just purchased a 1996 Limited 4runner that has the OEM RS3000 alarm system. I didn't receive a remote when I purchased it, just the 2-keys. I want to get a replacement remote but all the places I can find make it very clear you need to check the #'s on your remote before ordering a replacement. Does anyone know if there is actual differences between the rs3000 remotes in 1996/1997, etc? Or are the businesses just trying to CYA?

I think as long as you stay with the black egg shaped ones you should be ok. I have only been able to get one remote to work at a time with the grey ones.
I have picked up a few at salvage yards,as long as its from an RS3000 I haven't had a problem. The RS3000 ECU's are almost all the same they just use different harnesses to fit diff.cars.

Thanks. Do the remotes have the ability to roll down the rear window?

I have found the instructions. I also found that the rear window roll-down feature didn't come around until 1999 apparently.
