Removing fake wood interior trim?
My 97 I just got has the toyota wood trim package, but its faded and cracked and looks cheap now. Anyone successfully pealed this stuff off? Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get it off and not screw up the black plastic that this stuff was stuck to. Thinking of trying a hairdryer and some goo gone type orange spray used to take off stickers etc....
Thanks.
Thanks.

You can warm it up some to help, but ultimately you need to just pull it off. Most likely it will break into pieces, so it's kind of a tedious process. Goo Gone, Oops, or the like should work on the adhesive. I wouldn't used any scraping tools if you don't want to scatch up the black plastic underneath.
Good luck.

The Toyota™ kits are known to do this. After about 2-3 years most turn yellow, crack, or the clear coat comes off. Mine are warrantied for life and will not do this, or I will replace it!
To remove, tt would hellp to heat up the pieces with a hairdryer before you pull. This will make them less brittle when you pull them off. Take your time when prying it off. There will be some adheasive residue that comes off easily if you rub it with your thumb. It will probably take you about an hour to remove the old kit. You just have to be very careful and remove small sections at a time. You can also use 3m adhesive cleaner.
It will not affect the Oak or Gray areas, but does dissolve the black color, so you have to be careful to only apply it to areas you know you will recover with a new trim. Then you want to go over everything with the isoproply alcohol. Then put on the new adheasive promoter included in the new dash kit.
