I picked up a nail or something today. I had a hell of a time cranking the spare down. Thankfully I was at home and had some pb blaster handy. So take an extra 5 min and give 'er a good lubin'. You never know when your gonna need it.




I marked where I sprayed the pb blaster. It cranks very easily now.

hmm, so thats what its supposed to look like.. all i see under mine is rust. really doubt it would work.. and here, with all the salt on our roads, would just destroy the spare anyway..

Good idea to rattel can your chain and rim too so they don't rust away.

 

I don't worry about mine, took it off last year when I installed my swing-arm tire carrier.

 

I went as far as to do that air up the spare, then I wake up to a flat one day. I was at home so I used the big flo-jack but after looking I noticed I no jack. Def gotta cross the t's and dot the i's

i dont have my spare under there anymore, its mounted in the bed with a fabtech mount, how hard is it to get that thing out so i could sell it, it works great still, no rust

 

The one on my 99 4Runner was just 4 screws and out.

I think I will do that this weekend. If nothing else, preventative maintennance, just in case I ever decide to put the spare back in.

I have been running w/ a can of fix-a-flat, and no spare for the last year . (less weight = better milage).
Pray that I dont blow a tire (a nail, i can live with ).

I had to cut mine down with a die grinder last year (chain type). I bought a cable style carrier from a member here, and I make sure I maintain it.

 

Just took mine down for the first time in 5 years and 62K miles to install rear shocks. Had no problem. Maybe because I shoot it down everytime I wash the car and I live in Hawaii where they don't throw salt on the road.

I would, but in order to use it I would need to streach my frame to get a 35 to fit underthere... I dont carry a spare, unless on the trail or fwy. I have a patch kit and onboard air... If I am unlucky enough to have a blowout...well I am never far from home....
