I see tons and tons of people say that with regular maintenance, a Toyota will run for 400k. But, I'm sure that means many different things to different people. For one person they might mean oil changes, changing timing belt, and replacing the battery, is all the regular maintenance it needs. Others might take it to a dealership every 20,000 and have a whole $500 package done. For those that are mechanically inclined, and I guess, even for those who are not. What "needs" to be done so that you are not taking a gamble with your precious Toyota? Thanks in advance.

 

get the factory service manual for your truck and it will have a maintenance schedule...follow that and you will be doing all regular maintenance. the owners manual might even have it.

generally it includes stuff like motor oil, tranny fluid, diff oil, coolant, brakes, greasing the drivetrain/chassis, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, maybe adjusting valves periodically depending on engine, air filter, fuel filter (depending on engine...toy says some of them are supposed to last forever)...i'm sure i am forgetting a few things.

 

look in the maintenance forum and there is a sticky up top w/ a link to the toyota maintenance database. plug in your values and then it will tell you what you need to get done

I use AMSOIL fluids all the way around in my '95 Tacoma 4x4. I use the 75W-90 gear lube in the front and rear tranny and clutch and transmission. Its good for 500,000 miles and I use the severe service 0W-30 engine oil and the AMSOIL engine filters. the oil is good for 1 year or 35,000 miles and I use the AMSOIL air filters. I get around 27-29mpg. I will change my fuel filter about once every year. Spark plugs about once every 2 years. I keep the tires rotated balanced and aligned as needed. I dont use any engine oil additives but I do use the fuel cleaners. AMSOIL has made a world of difference in my truck. This is about all I do
