I am buying a rebuilt long block for my 99 4unner. I have found two sellers on ebay that are offering them. Oregon Rebuilders and Motortime out of California. I have spoken with Oregon Rebuilders and know they have a good reputation. Here is the link to thier ad:

However, here is another one for $1000 less:

I have gotten bids locally here in WA and have found it to be in the $2500 range. Is the cheaper one too good to be true? $1400 seems pretty low to re-machine the block, heads, grind the valves, new seals, pistons etc...

Any reccomendations? I do not want to get burned but $1000 savings is pretty attractive.

 

The $2295.00 one has a Lifetime Unlimited Mileage Warrantee..the other list no warrantee..

 

The cheaper one stated that it had a one year - unlimited mileage warrantee. I am leaning towards the one from oregon rebuilders but damn.....$1K is a big savings....

 

Another option to consider is checking with you local bone yard.Most of them are on a national database and can get used motors out of japan with really low milage.I personally would want a used motor that I knew was running before they pulled it,along with factory assembeled parts....That's just me though.

 

are you not having one built up to handle the turbo?

 

I decided to just turn down the boost to a mild 8-10 lbs and go from there. I got a new toy coming in later this week that will be my new turbo-go-fast project (2008 G37).

 

I'm sure the warranty issue would be a moot point in both cases. As soon as you slap your turbo back on, I can't imagine either company honoring any sort of warranty.
