Rear Window Question

I was trying to fix my rear window. I check the quick connects and the bolts that hold down my cap. They all seemed fine but when i opened up the tailgate, I saw this plug.

so what does this connect to? is the plug used at all?

I also had a question on what should be in this missing spot here.

picture #1: i think it's the part the plugs into the key switch on the back. does the key work to put the window down? if not, then that's probably the problem. at least that's the only round plug i ever saw in my tailgate

picture #2: that's the 'clutch start cancel' button in a manual. but from the picture, it looks like you have an auto. i don't know what if anything is there in the auto.

You need a new rear window motor? I have one, just let me know.

Your picture #2, on my 85 there was a blank there. I put a fog light switch in it. The clutch start cancel first came along around 86ish (if my CRS isn't acting up) and it went in that spot.

yeah, the key doesn't put the window down. what do i connect it to? i don't see any plugs in the tailgate that would fit. i did see this yellow wire that i think the previous owner put in but that doesn't lead up to anything.

yeah it's an auto.

it's a real PITA to get to. it took me quite a while and i cut my hands up. but if you put the window about 1/2 way down or so, you can get your hands in behind the regulator. the circle plug just plugs on what would be the back side of where the key is. it only goes on 1 way, which is hard because it's a circle. you need to look at the plug and the socket and make sure you line up all the connections.

there may be a way to take off the black plastic that says "toyota" on the outside of the tailgate. i couldn't figure it out, but if you can get that off, it should make things a bunch easier.
